Ebook About
A deeply personal story of one man’s spiritual odyssey and the unflagging faith which enabled him to survive the ordeal that wrenched his body and spirit to near collapse. Captured by a Russian army during World War II and convicted of being a “Vatican spy,” Jesuit Father Walter J. Ciszek spent some 23 agonizing years in Soviet prisons and the labor camps of Siberia. He here recalls how it was only through an utter reliance on God’s will that he managed to endure. He tells of the courage he found in prayer—a courage that eased the loneliness, the pain, the frustration, the anguish, the fears, the despair. For, as Ciszek relates, the solace of spiritual contemplation gave him an inner serenity upon which he was able to draw amidst the “arrogance of evil” that surrounded him. Learning to accept even the inhuman work of toiling in the infamous Siberian salt mines as a labor pleasing to God, he was able to turn the adverse forces of circumstance into a source of positive value and a means of drawing closer to the compassionate and never-forsaking Divine Spirit. He Leadeth Me is a book to inspire all Christians to greater faith and trust in God—even in their darkest hour. For, as the author asks, “What can ultimately trouble the soul that accepts every moment of every day as a gift from the hands of God and strives always to do his will?”

Book He Leadeth Me: An Extraordinary Testament of Faith Review :

My 4 year old daughter was diagnosed with a rare and dangerous cancer about one year ago. It has been a long, slow, painful journey learning to trust in God. I think I was finally ready for this book and so the Lord brought it to me at just the right time. Simple, powerful, earth shattering truth. I can feel it matriculating in, changing my life. His story also made me grateful. As bad as my journey has been, it doesn’t compare to his journey. This truth of trusting God completely each day, each moment, believing he has brought everything your way for his purpose, that you are in his perfect will. To accept, to embrace, to have joy and peace in every moment........wow. I’m crying as I write this. Thank you for your story!
As others have pointed out this is an amazing testament to faith and how seeking God's will can enable one to endure great suffering. Fr Ciszek reminds me of some of the great saints who suffered terribly. This is a five no ten star story. The reason i gave it book 4 stars is it can be a little repetitive but that is minor. One thing a reader could misinterpret is the nature of Divine providence. The manner it is presented can lead one to think the God caused this evil to bring about something greater however God does not cause evil rather evil enters the world through the free will/choices of mankind. Once that evil is present God can help the open and willing disciple to overcome it and even turn it to good for the glory of God via the pouring out of grace. All in all this is a great book and should be read by anyone seeking to understand suffering in the world.
